I'm looking into "are deceptive links on social media typically malicious" and the answer is no (of course) and the most popular deception in 2023 by far is still linking to Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up on YouTube (OF COURSE)

@tweedge Yes, other people are doing similar research and agreeing with you, I think. @doot has a recent blog entry on this IIRC

@yojimbo @doot@glitterkitten.co.uk god damn it this got me

@tweedge @doot I'm so sorry, but I'm currently almost laughing too hard to type properly ...

@yojimbo I didn't even expect it. If you'd linked directly I would've been sus, but clicking @doot@glitterkitten.co.uk 's profile and then seeing "infosec blog" I'm like "oo goody" -> WALL OF FLUTE NOISE

Well played well played ...

@tweedge @yojimbo @doot
😂 Be prepared to be fooled multiple times.
They got me at least trice.

I suspect @doot is responsible for a considerable part of the original research results 😜

@tweedge

The easiest one to remember is

hXXps://t.co/elon

@tweedge tfw you've methodologically rickrolled yourself

@tweedge
In other words, that particular link is not malcious. It’s not gonna let you down. It is the most popular deceptive link, and it’s never gonna give up on that promise. :blobcat_uwu:
